DRUMMING TIPS

Slow Practice - Fast Progress

Fast Practice - Slow Progress

Always Carry a Pencil or Pen - for making notes at lessons, rehearsals etc...
Keep Your Ears Open - Listen to as much different music as you can, always keep your ears open to other sources of inspiration.

Music Dictionary - A music dictionary is always a useful item to have to reference things you don't understand on charts/drum music.

Buy a Music Dictionary Here...

Time & Feel - Always investigate your time and feel. Being strong in these areas will get you hired!
Record Yourself - Gigs, Rehearsals, Practice Sessions, whatever it might be, record yourself as much as possible.
Take Lessons - Taking lessons is a great way of rapidly expanding your knowledge and skill. Learning from someone else's experience can only further your playing.
Go to Concerts(gigs) - Attending live gigs is a great learning experience and can motivate us to achieve a higher level. You can learn something from everyone, even if its how NOT to do something.
Learn to Read Music - Reading music is another great way to accelerate your learning. Get with a good private teacher who will go through step by step the ins & out of reading music. Once learnt this resource will open up other avenues of learning such as monthly drum publications and method books. Learning to read WILL NOT block your creativity and will help you teach yourself!

GIGGING TIPS

Always Carry a Pencil or Pen - you always need to make notes at lessons, rehearsals etc...

Drum Carpet - This is an invaluable item for any drummer to stop your kit running away from you!

Get to the Gig Early! - Be professional and don't be late!

Do Your Homework - Be it a drum lesson, audition or rehearsal always go prepared.

Failure to Prepare - Prepare to Fail

Business Cards - You never know when other musicians will ask for your number. Get some business cards, it looks professional and if you click on the link below, its FREE!

Re-hydrate - Always have a bottle of water on stage or when practicing. Playing a physical instrument like the drums under hot lights and in smoky atmospheres can quickly de-hydrated you and will affect your concentration.

NO ALCOHOL! this dehydrates you even further.

Sticks & Brushes to Hand - If you need to change between different sticks and/or brushes make sure they are to hand before the count off.
Starting Songs - Make notes of tempos for songs. Carry a Metronome/Click Track with you so you can start the tunes off at the right tempo. It looks, and is, very professional!
Have Fun!!
